Duet 3 electronics: the new Duet 3 6HC controller architecture Duet 3 uses a distributed CAN-FD architecture, allowing additional motor drivers, I/O modules, sensors, and toolboards to be added throughout the printer. Griffin print head family
One mount. Four print head options.
Every BIG printer ships with the standard Griffin. Three more configurations share the same bracket, so the melting subsystem swaps in minutes as the application changes: fine detail one week, bulk speed the next.
Same part, same printer, a different head.
A 45 × 45 × 20 cm bottle: 77 hours with the standard Griffin at 0.3 mm layers, 17 hours with the Griffin Ultra at 1.2 mm layers. A container of the same class: 80 hours to 12. Swap the head, not the machine.

IDEX dual print head add-on
Two independent heads. Clean dual-material prints.
Each extruder rides its own Y carriage. While one prints, the other parks outside the print area: no cross-contamination between materials, no idle nozzle dragging through the part. Geometries that a single head cannot print. Available for every BIG model.
- Soluble supports for internal channels, deep undercuts and cavities: the model in one material, the supports in Modix water-soluble filament, dissolved in water afterwards.
- Breakaway interface layers: print only the dense support interface in a second material, with no air gap. Bottom surfaces come out smooth, with far less sanding.
- Automatic filament changer: load the same filament on both heads and the printer switches heads on run-out. Prints run overnight without opening the enclosure, so the chamber stays warm.
- Single mode when the second head is not needed: the printer runs as a standard single-head machine.

Any 1.75 mm filament, no lock-in. Modix supplies tested print profiles for the common materials and professional-services hours for the demanding ones.

Nylon (PA) : Strong and flexible, for parts that need toughness. Dry it first.
TPU : Flexible and durable, for bendable items and gaskets.
Modix soluble support : Water-soluble support for complex prints on the IDEX second head.
Advanced : Enclosure, air filter and the Modix professional services for in-depth support.
ABS : Tough and heat-resistant, for functional mechanical parts.
ASA : ABS strength with UV resistance, for outdoor parts.
PC : Very tough and heat-resistant, for resilient parts.

Carbon-fiber and glass-fiber filled filaments print with the hardened-steel nozzle pack. Large parts in ABS, ASA, PC and Nylon want the enclosure to hold the chamber heat, and the active air filter to keep the room clean.
Active Air Filter (Must Have Additional Purchase)
The Modix Active Air Filter (MAAF) is an external air filter device. The filter cleanses the printers’ chamber by capturing micro-particles and gas fumes that are released from melted filament throughout the 3D printing process. MAAF provides a constant air cleansing process during the entire printing process, circulating the air in and out and back into the printer while cleaning it repeatedly.
Multi-layer filtering
A large fan inside the device draws the air from the printer through a flexible vent tube connected to the top of the device. The air is then guided through a set of three filters before it is circulated back into the printer.
The triple filter system includes
1. Pre-Filter – Remove large dust particles from the air.
2. HEPA Filter – High-Efficiency Particulate Absorbing (HEPA) filter, composed of a mat of randomly arranged fiberglass fibers designed to capture tiny particles released during printing.
3. Active Carbon Filter – Clean the air from toxic fumes released during the 3D printing process.
It is about your health!
Sub-micron particles and fumes released during the plastic melting process pose risk to your health. Therefore, every owner of a Modix 3D printer is strongly advised to install an air filter. Air filter is a MUST-HAVE add-on if you intend to print with any plastic beyond PLA, i.e. PETG, ABS… Although common knowledge is that printing PLA in a well-ventilated room is fine, there is no clear definition of proper room ventilation and during the winter and summer times windows are normally closed.
Controlling the air speed
Frontal speed selector allows controlling the air flow speed. Running the filter on the lowest speed during the printing process will not affect the internal chamber temperature while providing effective filtering. By the end of the printing, you can set the speed for the highest option for a few minutes in order to ensure the complete chamber has been cleaned of any harmful additives opening the doors.
Spare Filters
Considering the daily use of the printer in a clean room, the HEPA/Carbon combo filters last from 6 to12 months and the pre-filter from 3 to 6 months. An alert indicator to change the is located on the front panel.
